Shuryukan Yoshinkan Aikido Saudi Arabia and its instructors are officially recognized and internationally registered with the Aikido Yoshinkan Foundation (AYF) in Takadanobaba, Tokyo, Japan. This school is also a proud member of Aikido Yoshinkan Yoseikai (AYY) family of schools headed by Amos L. Parker Shihan (8th Dan), the Aikido Yoshinkan of Sacramento, and the International Shuyokan Aikido Federation in California.

Welcome to Shuryukan Yoshinkan Aikido Saudi Arabia Website! In this dojo, we train very seriously yet interact with each other like family members. Our instructions are minutely detailed, as we pay special attention to the position of the hands and feet. Guided by international qualified instructors, we practice basic movements & techniques over and over again to learn how to move our bodies in response to different types of power exerted by the opponent. Repeated and correct practice of these basic techniques eventually enables our students to react instinctively and to apply the appropriate technique in almost any situation he finds himself, whether it takes place in the dojo or at unexpected moment in daily life, verbal or otherwise physical. More so, Aikido teachings adheres to the same principles and teachings of Anger & Risk Management. Having said so, aikido training principles can be applied in your daily life, thereby fostering quality students that are fit, strong, violent-free and disciplined to better serve the community.

The kanji"SHU"stands for austerity and strong training, and is also part of the Shuyokan name, "RYU" means dragon, and "KAN" means the place of training. Loosely translated, it means House of the Strong Dragons!
On November 11, 2008, Shuryukan dojo was formally recognized by the Aikido Yoshinkai Foundation as an official AYF dojo. We extend our thanks and gratitude to Shioda Yasuhisa Soke, the Yoshinkan Aikido Board of Directors, and our technical advisers for their confidence and trust.

Our training
Saudi Yoshinkan Shuryukan Dojo's journey is to master and understand the basics utilizing the Yoshinkan system; and, to serve our community through the practice of aikido principles where every member strives to be in proper alignment with their surroundings - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Yoshinkan Aikido is occasionally called a "hard" style because the training methods are a product of the gruelling period that Sōke Shioda spent as a student of Morihei Ueshiba before the war.
As a style of aikido, yoshinkan is more akin to the prewar Aiki Budo techniques taught by O Sensei, and therefore also generally closer to aikijujutsu than those styles of aikido developed post-war. The unusual emphasis placed on correct form rather than correct flow and timing further contributes to its image as a "hard" style.
Shioda-sensei formed the Yoshinkan Aikido because he felt that there needed to be greater consistency in the training process for students, so he created a structured method in which beginning students would learn the foundation techniques. Techniques are made up of elements such as the initiating attack, the applicable control and whether it is a pin or throw. They are further divided into two groups called ichi (number 1) and ni (number 2) techniques. Ichi (Number 1) techniques have a feeling of the energy moving away from you, often with your partner, or uke, pulling. Ni (Number 2) techniques have a feeling of the energy coming towards you. The feeling for an ichi (number 1) technique is that you go with the pull and for ni (number 2) you divert or pivot away from the push.
In 1990, Sōke Shioda founded both the International Yoshinkai Aikido Federation (IYAF) to facilitate the learning of Yoshinkan aikido outside of Japan.
Today, both the All Japan Yoshinkan Aikido Federation and the IYAF are now led by Yasuhisa Shioda, the founder's son.
Under him, the Yoshinkan Honbu dojo, located in Shinjuku Tokyo, runs an annual 11-month intensive course called the Senshusei course derived from the course used to train the Tokyo Metropolitan Riot Police.
